The X-Files turns 22! On this day in 1993, The X-Files began its nine-season run with the pilot episode.

The X-Files is the first ever TV series to launch an official internet website, and the first TV series ever released on DVD. The series was FOX’s war horse in its time – the network’s longest-running sci-fi series and notably its most successful drama series ever. The franchise has generated a profit of over 2 billion dollars. Toward the end of the 1990s, The X-Files was the most lucrative show on American television. It was highly acknowledged by the Golden Globes, setting a record for most wins (3) in the Best Drama Series category. It is also one of the 10 most successful drama series in Emmys’ history with 16 wins. Time magazine called it the “cultural touchstone” of the 1990s.
